Babies is Konrad Lueg’s contribution to the portfolio Grafik des Kapitalistischen Realismus (EB25). It is based on a “two-color proof of an advertisement for baby products”1 that Lueg found in a print shop and reproduced as a screen print for the graphic portfolio. The print shows six different portraits of a baby arranged in six rows one below the other. It is one of Lueg’s few print works and, with its ornamental representation of the motif, ties in with his paintings and graphics featuring patterns from wallpaper and textiles. Like the object Würfel (EB6), published in the same year, Babies is part of Lueg’s exploration of everyday consumer culture.
