Photogravure by Anri Sala. The corner of a bright, white room, barely recognizable. Along the edges are several black shapes.

The photogravure is based on a photograph, more precisely a motif from a series of eight black and white photographs (Corner, 2004), in which Anri Sala photographed sleeping bats in the corner of a room. The animals are not hanging from the ceiling of a cave or a dark attic, as one might expect, but along two ceiling edges of an illuminated white cube. Once again alienated by the etching technique, the spatial and representational reference almost disappears.
