The screenprint on Plexiglas titled Magic Window Cleaner II, which appears as Hödicke’s contribution to the portfolio Grafik des Kapitalistischen Realismus (EB25), follows a similar pictorial idea to Cleaner VII (EB23). The Plexiglas sheet is fully printed in red on the reverse using the screenprinting technique, while on the front a vertical strip, the width of an equally printed window wiper, remains unprinted, revealing the Plexiglas surface. Unlike in Hödicke’s paintings with reflections and mirror effects, whose distortions were partly created using the squeegee, here the tool is depicted directly, and the reflection is no painted illusion: in the unprinted Plexiglas area, viewers can see themselves mirrored.
Magic Window Cleaner II was printed in an edition of 80 copies plus an unverifiable number of h.c. copies; in addition, three signed trial proofs were produced.
