Edition of 12, signed and numbered

3.200 Euro

Multiple by KH Hödicke. Wall object. Square wooden surface with a pane of glass. A rectangular piece of white plastic foil twice the length is pressed between the wood and the glass so that it overlaps at the top edge and falls over the glass. A horizontal cut along the top edge to the middle of the film and a second straight, vertical cut in the film from the top to the middle causes half of it to fall down in a loose drape

The object Ohne Titel, published in 2017 in an edition of twelve copies, was realised according to a concept by the artist dating from 1968. As in other works from this period – for example the edition No. 14 Römisches Meer, Brandung (1968) – Hödicke experiments here with visual effects such as reflections, light refractions, transparency and opacity, which can be created through various layers and combinations of glass and white plastic film. The pictorial object consists of a square wooden support on which a glass pane of the same size is mounted using clips. A rectangular piece of white plastic film, twice as long, is pressed between wood and glass so that it overlaps at the top edge and falls over the glass. A horizontal cut along the top edge to the centre of the film and a second straight vertical incision from the top down to the middle cause the film to drop halfway in a loose drape.
Various art-historical and aesthetic references open up here: from drapery as an important motif in painting of the Early Renaissance and Baroque to monochromy and Lucio Fontana’s slashed canvases.
