The object INNERSCALE from 2014, produced in a limited edition of 150 pieces, is part of the ongoing series Inner Steps. INNERSCALE is a plaster model of a rectangular shape that tapers concavely inward in five steps, a negative form. Nørgaard, who also refers to multiples as “one-liners in art,” writes about the object: “The inner scale, the physical manifestation of the work, is an illusion, an empty frame, an empty pedestal, a possibility to think. The viewer is the work of art. ‘I try to set you free,’ said Joseph Beuys. The German word for monument is Denkmal. Imagine. The rest is silence.”1 The object was created in collaboration with Edition Møen and comes in a cardboard box designed by the artist, on which the word INNERSCALE is printed in white on black in a staircase shape ascending from the bottom left to the top right. It is signed and stamped on the back: “INNERSCALE” MULTIPLE BJØRN NØRGAARD 2014 EDITION BLOCK / Edition Møen xx/150.
