Edition by Ayse Erkmen. Two silver stencils hang one above the other on a gray wall. The stencils look like sabre blades.
Edition by Ayse Erkmen. A silver stencil in the shape of a sabre blade loves on a light-coloured linen cover. A second stencil peeks out of the cover.

One is tempted to recognize clinking sabre blades in the harmless objects, but this work is actually two differently curved tailor’s stencils from Istanbul, hammered in silver in their original size, which Ayşe Erkmen found in the possession of her grandmother, who was a tailor. The stencils are typical utensils of the dying Istanbul tailoring trade. The material transfer from plain wood to precious 925 silver – the title of the object refers to the standard prescribed fineness of sterling silver – further enhances the alienating effect. The object comes with a fabric case with signature and numbering.
