The wall object Barbara Blooms gesammelte Werke (Barbara Bloom’s collected works) in an edition of twelve consists of a solid wood wall shelf on which 38 black linen-bound books of the same height and width but different volumes are placed between bookends. The mottoes embossed in gold on the spines of the books in Latin, English, French and German function as book titles of imaginary literary or philosophical works and open up various fields of association. The silhouette of her profile and her surname on the spines identify Bloom as the author of these collected works, which give the impression of being literary classics. However, they are blind volumes: the pages of the books are blank, inviting you to fill the individual works with your own thoughts. The 38 titles of this never-written complete edition are: ALPHA AND OMEGA / MY ECHO, MY SHADOW, AND ME / MOVING FINGER WRITES / SAVING FACE / LIKE AN OPEN BOOK / UNE DISEUSE / ALL IN VAIN / ONLY SKIN DEEP / MARK MY WORDS / OPEN SECRET / MY SPITTING IMAGE / NON OMNIS MORIAR / A WASTE OF BREATH / AS HANDSOME DOES / NOT ON MY LIFE / BESIDE HERSELF / MIRROR, MIRROR / ON THE TIP OF MY TONGUE / ENTRE NOUS / SOLO SOLO / BETWEEN YOU, ME, AND THE LAMPPOST / CUT OFF YOUR NOSE TO SAVE YOUR FACE / NEEDLESS TO SAY / EYE TO EYE / AD PERSONAM AD NAUSEAM / THE REIGN OF NARCISSISM / A LITTLE BIRD TOLD ME / SIGNED, SEALED, DELIVERED / TWO FACED / ALTER IDEM / LAPSUS MEMORIÆ LAPSUS LINGUÆ LAPSUS CALAMI / SECOND TO NONE / WHEELS WITHIN WHEELS / PROFIL PERDU / DER DOPPELGÄNGER / DAS DING AN SICH / FACE VALUE / AB OVO USQUE AD MALA. The last volume is signed by the artist.
